Housing Act 1988 section 21(1) and (4) as amended by section 98(2) of the Housing Act 1996 and section 194 and paragraph 103 of Schedule 11 to the Localism Act 2011. This is the prescribed form for England (Form 6A).

2. NOTICE

You are hereby given notice that possession is required by the landlord of the dwelling-house known as which you hold as a tenant.

3. POSSESSION DATE

After the landlord intends to seek possession of the dwelling-house.

4. WHAT THIS NOTICE MEANS

This notice is given under section 21 of the Housing Act 1988. You do not have to leave your home immediately. If you do not leave, the landlord must obtain an order for possession from the court before you can lawfully be required to leave. If the court grants a possession order and you still do not leave, only court-appointed bailiffs or enforcement agents can remove you.

5. VALIDITY OF THIS NOTICE

This notice is valid for 6 months only from the date it is given to you (or, where the notice is given before the beginning of the tenancy, from the beginning of the tenancy). After that, the landlord must give you a fresh notice before applying to the court.

6. GETTING HELP

If you need advice about this notice, take it immediately to a Citizens Advice, a housing advice centre, a law centre or a qualified adviser. You may be able to get legal aid but this depends on your circumstances.
