Parental Responsibility Agreement (Children Act 1989, section 4)

This is a Parental Responsibility Agreement made under section 4 of the Children Act 1989. To take effect it must be signed before an authorised witness and recorded at the Central Family Court.

3. THE AGREEMENT

The mother, who has parental responsibility for the child, agrees that the father shall have parental responsibility for the child (in addition to the mother having it).

4. MEANING OF PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

Parental responsibility means all the rights, duties, powers, responsibilities and authority which a parent has in relation to a child and the child's property. It continues until the child reaches 18 unless a court orders otherwise, and does not end merely because the parents live apart.

5. HOW TO SIGN

This agreement must be signed by each parent in the presence of an authorised witness (a justice of the peace, or an authorised officer of the court), who will confirm the signatory's identity. Do not sign until you are in front of that witness.
